Discovery preview
A brief before a result.
This page explains the discovery CI0R is being built to offer. It is not a search box, and it does not return products for a personal request.
What a structured shopping brief contains
A future brief is a record of the request, not a list of products. These are the fields it is designed to hold.
- Product type
- What kind of thing the shopper is trying to find.
- Hard constraints
- Conditions a future result must meet, such as a budget ceiling or an excluded material.
- Preferences
- Qualities that guide ranking and can be traded off, such as color or a preferred style.
- Context
- Situation that changes what good looks like, such as duration of use or the shopper's height.
- Open questions
- Facts the brief still needs before a recommendation could be grounded.
Hard constraints differ from preferences
A hard constraint is a condition a product would have to meet. A preference can be weighed and given up when the evidence points elsewhere. CI0R does not apply either kind of rule to live merchant products in this preview.
Evidence-backed recommendations
A future recommendation would cite fields from a connected merchant catalog: which constraint a product meets, which preference it gives up, and what is unknown. This preview has no merchant catalog to cite, so it does not recommend products.
Illustrative example
This transformation is a static example. It is not connected to live merchant inventory, and it was not produced by interpreting text from a visitor.
“A comfortable office chair under $500 for 8 hours a day. I am 190 cm and do not want leather.”
- Product type: office chair
- Hard constraint: budget at or below $500
- Hard constraint: no leather
- Preference: support for long sessions
- Context: about 190 cm
